It was funny. Even looking in the mirror, she could only see herself as people told her she was... or acted like she was. She swallowed the bile in her throat as she thought back to the day, the people that didn't know her, and tried to smile--seeing her grimace in the mirror, she sighed. She hated feeling weak. She started to hum gently, and then sing--soft enough so her family couldn't hear her through the window. This was not their burden.

"Perfect by nature
Icons of self indulgence
Just what we all need
More lies about a world that

Never was and never will be
Have you no shame? Don't you see me?
You know you've got everybody fooled..."

She wanted to turn from the mirror, to not see her flaws anymore, but it was like the sweetest-smelling poison--she couldn't help but continue to look. She tried to smile again, and it was slightly more real, but still... she knew what it truly was. Still pretending--always acting.

"Look here she comes now
Bow down and stare in wonder
Oh how we love you
No flaws when you're pretending
but now I know she

Never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled..."

What she wanted most was to no longer see that face, the face of lies and betrayal. The face that everyone saw of her--it wasn't enough to fake. Part of her wished that the face never existed, that her reflection was just a mere show of illusion. But then...

"Without the mask
Where will you hide?
Can't find yourself
Lost in your lies

I know the truth now
I know who you are
And I don't love you anymore

It never was and never will be
You don't know how you've betrayed me
And somehow you've got everybody fooled

It never was and never will be
You're not real and you can't save me
Somehow now you're everybody's fool..."

Then she thought deeper, closing her eyes as she tried to stop the coming tears. She thought of one person, one name, and a true smile parted her lips--she didn't need to see it to believe it, because she could feel it. She wiped a few stray tears from her eyes and sighed gently, walking out of the bathroom. She knew what she needed now--she just hoped he was there. He had said he would always be there.

And he always was.
Just a random songfic idea coming from recent events.
Yay random.

The "he" stands for a few people, actually, and those people should know who they are. ;3
