Looking up at the sky, her mind drifts
Drifts like every serious relationship she can remember having
The men, strong and handsome, passionate and steadfast
The women, sensual and lithe, curves glowing in moonlight
The love that faded into vapor, as if it were water
Looking at a picture of his perfect family
A beautiful wife, a strong teenage son, a talented young daughter
He thinks of his house, a mansion
And all of the servants at his beck and call
His heart breaks, from the sheer sense that it is all wrong
Where did I go wrong?
She asks herself, hands gripping a half-empty glass
One that has been filled and emptied, on that very night
More times than she cares to count
More times than she wants to remember
What can I do to be happy again?
He wonders, turning off the light
Laying next to his wife, who sleeps
He watches her, and wonders if she really loves him
As he knows he does not love her
He sleeps, and she drinks
Together, wondering the same thing
Together, wishing they could change their lives
Together, knowing what they have is all they will ever have
Neither remembers the happier times
The times they were together
The times that are a lifetime away from where they are now
Simply because trust was lost
And the first cracks formed on their hearts
Had they forgiven, happiness might have stayed
But the past can never be changed
They do not know what they could have had
Together
Drifts like every serious relationship she can remember having
The men, strong and handsome, passionate and steadfast
The women, sensual and lithe, curves glowing in moonlight
The love that faded into vapor, as if it were water

goes year-round now, and this is my present for *MemoiredNightmares. ^^ I chose this prompt:
Something about love and loss perhaps; a story about two lovers who have foolishly betrayed each other and are forced to look back on their lives yet never see how large of a mistake they had made.
I couldn't decide quite what to write... and then this suddenly came to me, so here it is ^^ Sad and emotional, but I like it... I think it's one of my best poems yet.
Hope you like it, *MemoiredNightmares~
